Conditions
When travelling on a 5 or 10-day flexible InterRail Pass, please note that if the benefit entails free transportation, it requires the use of one of your travel days. In case of a free overnight ferry, you may enter either the day of departure or arrival in the Travel Calendar.
If the benefit only entails a discount in price, this does not require use of a travel day. Therefore, you can travel using the discount - even if all your travel days have been used up - provided it takes place within the overall validity period of your Pass.
Supplements
On your Inter Rail journey you will have to pay supplement tickets to travel in some countries, especially where there are high speed trains.
The supplement fee varies, and in counties such as Germany, Italy, Spain and France, the supplement can be fairly expensive.
In France, there is a special price for Inter Rail Pass holders travelling with the following trains: EUROSTAR, ELIPSOS, ARTESIA, THALYS, Rail France, Suisse SAS and the night train travelling between Paris and Berlin.
If you want to travel with the TGV trains, the supplement varies. You can avoid high supplement fees if you don’t travel Friday and Sunday afternoon.
The following trains in Spain require supplements: The EUROMED-, ARCO-, ALARIS- and TALGO- trains. There is a special price travelling with the ELIPSOS- trains.
The supplements for travelling with the Italian Pendolino- trains are fairly high. The reason for this is extra services, such as food and so on.
Check out the supplement fees before boarding the train. There are no supplement fees on regional trains in the United Kingdom and in the Netherlands.
